Tutorial 1 - How To Use Windows Update |

Keep Windows up to date with Critical Updates from Microsoft to protect your computer from Internet worms and other threats that can exploit the security flaws in Windows. Microsoft never sends updates by email - to update Windows you need to visit the Microsoft Windows Update web site which will tell you which updates your machine needs. This tutorial describes how to download Critical Updates from the Windows Update web site. |

Step 1: Connect to the Internet. |

Step 2: When you have connected to the Internet, click on the Tools menu and then click Windows Update. |

Step 3: The Windows Update web page is displayed and checks that you have the latest version of the Windows Update software installed on your computer. (If you don't have the latest version installed, a message will appear asking you to download and install it. You can safely click the Yes button and the latest version of the Windows Update software will then be downloaded and installed on your computer.) |

Step 4: The Welcome to Windows Update page is now displayed - click the Scan for Updates link to begin checking for updates for your computer. |

Step 5: Windows Update begins checking for available updates for your computer. This can take several minutes. |

Step 6: When Windows Update has finished checking it displays a list of available updates for your computer. Click the Review and install updates link to review the critical updates for your machine. |

Step 7: When you have reviewed the list of updates, click the Install Now button to begin downloading and installing the updates. |

Step 8: Windows Update begins downloading the updates to your computer. |
|
| |
|
Step 9: When the updates have finished downloading, Windows Update begins installing them. |
|
| |
|
Step 10: When the updates have finished installing, Windows Update displays the Installation Complete page. A message may be displayed asking you to restart your computer to complete the update process - if this message is displayed, click the Restart button to restart your computer. |
